This is a serious question that pops up in my mind often (increasingly so lately).
If I wanted to implement a simple approval workflow application (a form with fields, attachments, etc.), what would be a good solution besides Notes? SharePoint? How do people do apps like that when they don't have Notes as an option?
I've only done app dev in Notes for many years, so I'm really ignorant regarding other platforms. I'm having a hard time imagining something other than Notes that would be easy to put whatever you wanted in the request (lots of various fields, plain and rich, some computed), keep track of approval status, create reminder agents, show the requests in various views (by status, by next apprvover), etc.
I've also liked adding Sametime online awareness and chat to my forms and views lately. Is that functionality easily available in other apps?
Oh, we're a global company and have many replicas spread out geographically to remote servers, so replication is nice, too.
Thanks for your thoughts. There is a good chance Notes (email) is going away where I work, so I'm trying to plan for how to accomplish similar things without Notes.
PS. One option might be to web-enable all apps and kjust keep one Domino server. I'd miss having people use the Notes client to access the apps, though ...
